The inaugural Portarlington 10k road race takes place on Sunday 26th September 2010 in the historic town of Portarlington which straddles the River Barrow on the Laois/Offaly county boundary.
The route will give each runner a chance to take part in great event which will challenge both elite runners and novices. The route combines town and country views and is in general a flat and fast course though the inclusion of the picturesque Corrig Hill offers the course something different.
The event is a must for any runner, jogger or walker wanting to try out a new race event; races include:
- Main 10k
- Junior 3k
Walk, run or jog the six mile course. Starting and finishing in the centre of Portarlington the course combines Town and Country taking the runner past historic sites such as the French Church and picturesque vistas such as those from Corrig Woods.
Detailed Route Directions are:
Start on Link road (exact location to be agreed)
Head towards Bank of Ireland
Turn right at Bank of Ireland straight down the main street
Turn Left at the Square onto French Church Street
Go over barrow bridge, turn right at Plum Heat onto Botley Lane
Run past Clown Around take right turn onto Bog Lane
Turn right onto Spa Street
Turn left at Square onto Link Road
Keep left at Credit Union onto Lower Main Street
Keep straight heading towards Bracklone Street
Past Bracklone street turn right onto Canal Road
Turn left at Odlums Mill Crossroads
Turn right onto road for Corrig Woods
Straight through crossroads heading for Black Hall Bridge
Keep straight until Black Hall Bridge turn right (before Portlaoise Road)
At Odlums Mill cross roads take left onto Station Road
At Station road roundabout (Maxol Garage) keep left
At Bank of Ireland turn right onto relief road
Finish Line ahead
